DOLORES LACEY
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Dolores ‘Toots’ Catherine Lacey, age 76, on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care unit, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Toots was a daughter of the late Walter and Sophie Maziarz. Besides her parents, Toots was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Clarence Edward Lacey, sister, Viola King and a son, Wayne, in infancy. Toots will be forever missed by her children, Sandy, Sydney, Debbie (Bobby Stanton), East Tracadie and Wally (Mirranda), East Preston; grandchildren, her pride and joy, Katrina, Jared, Aaron, Dennis, Kyle, Josee, Celine, Allie, Nasci, Isaiah and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra (John) Doyle, Lower Sackville and her beloved nieces and nephews. Employed by Sydney Family Practice prior to her retirement, Toots led a full and busy life until her illness. A dedicated member of the Trinity United Church congregation until its closure, she found a new home at the United Heritage Church. Toots will be missed by her many friends there, as well as her scrapbooking buddies, her swimming friends and the ladies of the High Fiber Lunch of the library, to name just a few of the many people who called her a friend. Visitation for the late Dolores ‘Toots’ Catherine Lacey will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Toots will be held at United Heritage Church, Sydney on Friday, August 19 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Following the service a reception will be held in the church hall. Interment will take place in the Alfred E. Smith Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Memorial donations in memory of Toots may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or the Cancer Patient Care Fund, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
