Catherine Borden McLellan, 98, passed away September 4 at home in Wolfville with her family by her side. She was born on March 26, 1918 in Ottawa. She was predeceased by her husband James H. McLellan Jr., her parents Karl W. “Pope” and Amy Wamboldt Borden, her sister Ruby Borden Frey and her aunt Leah Agnes Borden. Catherine graduated from Acadia University in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She pursued further study in Boston and New York in Fashion Design. She worked for several years at Time Magazine in NY where she met her husband Lt. James H. McLellan Jr. They moved to Chicago, then CT and then to NJ where she raised her family. After Jim’s retirement they moved back to her childhood home on the Ridge in Wolfville, NS. During the many years that followed she shared her love of her home town of Wolfville and province of Nova Scotia with family and friends who visited from all over the world. She welcomed all with humor, stories and songs rolling willingly along through the changing times. Catherine’s enthusiasm for the beauty of nature was infectious and she passed that on to all who loved her. She enjoyed a lifetime interest in the arts. Her specialty was making hand decorated papers that she crafted into cards for family and friends. She is survived by her son James H. McLellan III and his wife Lisa Hammett Vaughan of Wolfville, son John Borden McLellan and his wife Nancy Latner of Dallas, TX, and her daughter, Jeanie Eberhardt and her husband Tom of Layton, NJ along with five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656). A Gathering to Celebrate Catherine’s Life will be held on September 14, 2016 between 2:00 – 4:00 pm in the Wolfville Chapel. At Catherine’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation at Park Lane Mall, Level 3, 5657 Spring Garden Road, Box 245, Halifax, NS B3J 3R4 or the charity of your choice.
