Rita Mae (Petrie) MacKillop “Tootsie”, age 77 of Glace Bay passed away Friday the 9th of September 2016 at Glace Bay Hospital.
Born June 22, 1939 and raised in Glace Bay, she married and moved her family to Toronto, Ontario where she never lost her love or longing for Cape Breton Island, the family, loved ones and memories she'd left behind. Rita was an Entrepreneur at heart, she created and ran her own successful and thriving business at Toronto's down town Harborsquare Waterfront. She was a free spirit, lived life to the fullest and on her own terms. She had the most beautiful blue eyes that welcomed and warmed your heart, an infectious laugh and a smile that could light up a room. She loved her family and her friends and drew no distinctions, so lines were sometimes blurred if you were meeting her for the first time. She was one of a kind, dearly loved and will be sorely missed. Rita is survived by her three children, Kenny, Karen (John), Cheryl; her four grandchildren, Katie, Dylan, Haley, Malcom; great grandson, Seamus and her best friend/sister, Joyce and many loved extended family members. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church foyer. Burial is in St. John`s Cemetery.
