He was always very proud of his beloved children, Sarah Belle (husband Jason), Shayne (wife Melanie Mehes) and Sheila Tuhkasaari (husband Niilo). Wayne was a cherished “Papa” to his four grandchildren; Declan, Ava, Nova and Adelaine, who always brought such joy and happiness to his life. He moved to Sudbury to work for Inco in 1971, where he met and married the love of his life. Wayne worked for Vale/Inco for 38 years holding many different managerial positions with his last being the Manager of Global, Procurement and Logistics for the Canadian and UK Operations. Wayne was passionate about work and formed many strong and lasting relationships throughout his career. Wayne loved returning to his home in Nova Scotia to visit with his family and friends. He enjoyed walking the beaches and listening to the waves at night. Nova Scotia held a special place in his heart. After Wayne was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2015, he was determined to beat the odds and continued to live each day with hope and optimism and in doing so was a true inspiration to his family. Throughout his journey with cancer, Wayne was lucky to receive the love and support of family and many friends. This support made his difficult fight with cancer more comforting and bearable. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Maison Vale Hospice, the numerous doctors, nurses and other medical professionals both in Sudbury and Ottawa, who helped Wayne in his difficult battle with cancer. The family will be having a celebration of life for Wayne at the Northern Water Sports Centre at 206 Ramsey Lake Road, on Sunday September 18th between 2 and 5pm.
