Evelyn Fern Davis passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Foyer Care Home in Ponteix, SK on September 15, 2016. Fern was born in Vanguard, SK on November 6, 1929. The daughter of Walter and Rachel Ainlay, Fern grew up in Pambrun, SK with her five siblings: Jack, Merle, Laura, Norma, and Wilma. After graduating from Swift Current Collegiate Institute, Fern married Mel Davis in 1949 and moved to a farm outside Neville, SK where they started their family. Many of Fern’s fondest memories were of the farm. In 1963, Fern and Mel moved to Shaunavon, SK and operated a hotel. In 1967 the family moved to Swift Current, SK where Fern was a homemaker and worked at Sears. During those years, the family rebuilt their cabin on the north end of Lac Pelletier, SK. Fern recalled many joyful family reunions and fun-filled summers at the cabin with friends and family, including her children Lexie, Barry and Tracy. Fern also loved to travel with her family. In the 1980’s, Fern moved to B.C. and later returned to Saskatchewan to live in Regina and then Swift Current. She moved to St. Joseph’s Foyer in Ponteix in 2011. Her family will always appreciate how she was so well cared for by the wonderful staff at the Foyer. Fern is lovingly remembered by her family and friends, especially her children, Lexie, Barry, and Tracy (Donnie); her grandchildren, Lori (Wil), Greg, Brittany, Stefan, Hayley, Kelsey and Keely; and by her great-grandchildren, Ella and Ava. Fern instilled in her family the value of empathy, humility, and kindness. Along with wonderful recipes, she passed to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren a love for music and the comfort of touch, a playful sense of humour, and a capacity for unconditional love. A private family service was held on September 21, 2016 at the Swift Current Funeral Home Chapel, Swift Current, SK. The private family Interment Service was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. In Fern’s Memory, donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
