John Joseph GENTER
With tears of deep-rooted sadness and heartfelt loss we announce the passing of “Joe” Genter, born 09/02/1927: husband, father, grand-father, great grand-father and the last surviving member of his family.
Left behind as tributes to him, and the flag his heart proudly flew, are Joe’s adoring wife of 68 years, Alma (Nicholson); his son, Wayne (Cecilia); daughters, Sharon Magee and Carol Genter and his grandchildren, very much his treasure: Daniel Magee, Amanda, Jonathan, Chelsea and David Carl Genter. Also his sister-in-law, Deloris Wincott and Lillian Beaton and many nieces and nephews. Joe was also blessed with great grandchildren: Daniel and Logan Magee, Alice and David Joseph Mac Donald. He was predeceased by his brother Melin Genter and his son-in-law, Dave Landry. Joe worked at the Sydney Steel Plant for over 40 years as a welder before retiring and he was always a man of the earth loving fishing, snowmobiling and hunting (especially with Alma.) He loved working on cars and in recent years especially, his daily visits to Tim’s and “his girls.” All of these brought him great joy. An outing with Alma for supper, a quiet word search puzzle or a daily stroll on the boardwalk were among “Joes” favorite pass times. He and Alma were known as the “hilltop” couple of Dutch Brook for 55+ years. A wake for “Joe,” a man admired by all who knew him, will be held at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home on 564 Alexander in Sydney, on Sunday, October 9th from 12-2 p.m.. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating, with a reception afterwards. Burial will take place the same day at Forest Haven, 1510 Grand Lake Road, Sydney.
