MARIE ELIZABETH WORNATH
Mom passed into eternal peace and rest on Monday, October 10, 2016 at the age of 89, joining her husband and many other loved ones. She was born to Richmond and Mildred Sparling of Gray, SK on February 18, 1927. Mom trained as a teacher at the Normal School in Moose Jaw and taught at Mankota, SK and then moved to Emery School, South of Hodgeville. She married Albert Wornath on July 22, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Regina. They farmed in the Glen Bain area for many years and retired at Swift Current. Mom moved to Regina and lived at the Renaissance Retirement Home until she needed more care. We were fortunate enough to have her placed at the Sunset Extendicare Home. The family wishes to thank both facilities for the excellent care she received. She was predeceased by her husband Albert Wornath in 1993; son-in-law Walter Basler in 2004; parents Richmond and Mildred Sparling; brother John Sparling and his wife Alma; in-laws Simon and Christine Wornath; niece Loretta Wornath; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Otto Wornath, Nettie and Herman Silzer, Hilda and Karl Silzer, Adela and Peter Miller, Bertha and Ted Kober, Andrew Thomas and Casper Fiege. Mom is survived by her daughter Dianne Basler; granddaughter Danielle Basler; great-grandchildren Hannah and Kaelan Toews and their father Greg Toews; goddaughter Daphne Gelinas; sisters-in-law Clara Fiege, Gertrude Thomas and former sister-in-law Ingeborg Wornath as well as many nieces and nephews. Prayer will be held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 East Victoria Avenue, Regina on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church, 665 Central Avenue, Swift Current, SK on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with interment in Mount Pleasant Burial Park. Those so wishing, may make donations in Mom’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan, Sunset Extendicare or to St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church.
