Gertrude Thomson
Lieu de décès : Sydney, Nouvelle Ecosse
Date de décès : 21 octobre 2016
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Gertrude (Gertie) Frances Thomson (nee Butler), announce her peaceful passing on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s beautiful 4E An Cala Palliative Care Unit with her family at her side. Gertie was the youngest daughter of the late Uriah and Margaret (nee Wiseman) Butler. Well known for her kind heart, giving nature and her many selfless acts. She was talented beyond compare and could turn her hand at any craft and was a skilled seamstress to all who needed something sewn. No job too big, or too small. Gertie worked for a short time at Victoria Haven Nursing Home and had committed her life to helping others. She was involved in such organizations as AFTEC, Town House and was on the ladies auxiliary for both Epworth and Warden United Churches. Gertie was known to be quite the dart shooter and loved bowling in a mixed league with Roy. Gertie was also an active member in the cursillo movement. Gillis Lake was the place where Gertie and Roy spent their summers with first their children and then their grandchildren. The van was always full when it hit the dirt road.
Gertie is survived by her daughter, June MacLean (Terry) whom she lived with; sons, Willie (Valerie), Eric (Joann) and Keith (Margie); 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Daisy and Marjorie (both of Glace Bay) and brother, Wilson (of Donkin) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her soul mate and love of her life, Roy whom she missed dearly for the past seven years; son, David; daughter-in-law, Tish; sister, Laura and brothers, Willie, Cecil and Jimmy.
A visitation for the late Gertrude Thomson will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 on Monday, October 24 at Patten Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Warden United Church with Rev. Nancy Whittney officiating. Cremation to follow with interment of Gertie’s cremated remains taking place in Greenwood cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com.
