Edwin ‘Ebbie’ Henry
Ebbie Henry of Moose Jaw, formerly of Shamrock, passed away on October 25 at 93 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Sarah (n. Peters) and their children and spouses: John (Beryl), Regina, Marilyn (Brian) Wirsche, Hodgeville, Hugh (Linda), Swift Current, Gord (Sally), Lloydminster, Shelley (Brian Harvey), Bournemouth, U.K., Dale (Roxanne), Meadow Lake. He also leaves twelve loving grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his three siblings, Pemrose Whelan (Regina), Stella Horsman (Indian Head) and John (Parry Sound). Ebbie was born on the family homestead near Shamrock and spent most of his life as a resident of the village. He joined the Canadian Army in 1941 and subsequently served overseas with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. When he returned to Shamrock he became the postmaster. He then took the job of Secretary/Treasurer for the R. M. of Shamrock, where he worked for 47 years. For twenty-five of those years he was also Manager of the Shamrock Credit Union. Ebbie was active in many aspects of community life, including sports, Lions, Legion and the United Church. He was also instrumental in establishing Shamrock Regional Park. Ebbie was generous, witty and unassuming. He was devoted to family and community, and had a tireless work ethic. He was a respected friend to all that knew him.
