Herbert Wiebe

Date de décès : 27 octobre 2016

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Herbert B. Wiebe. Herb “Dad” was born on November 15, 1927 in Herbert, SK to John & Agnes Wiebe, the third of nine children. He grew up on a farm north of Herbert and attended Los Angeles Public School where he completed his grade 10 education. In his early teens he made a decision to become a Christ follower and was baptized several years later. From 1946 to 1949 he enrolled in the Herbert Bible School where he made some significant life-long friends. There were many years of working with his father and brothers on the family farm. Dad particularly enjoyed the cattle and horses. The family barely survived the dirty thirties and as a way to supplement the family income, Dad spent a winter in Vancouver working at a shingle factory. In 1962 he met and married Adeline Wiebe and they had three children – Brenda, followed a year and half later by twins, Grace and Grant. Dad & Mom eventually moved onto the family farm and took over the day-to-day operations after his parents passed away. Close to home was Dad’s favourite place to be. He lived a simple life. He provided for his family, cared for the animals, and tilled the soil. He faithfully farmed for 50 years. As the years slipped by, Dad & Mom made it a priority to visit their family spread across the country. During all these years, the church remained an important part of Dad’s life. Dad’s love for the Lord was expressed in his quiet faithful service mostly behind the scenes, both in the church and in the community. In 2004, they sold the farm and retired in Herbert. They retired from the farm but not from living. As on the farm, they quickly got to know their neighbours who eventually became friends. If you were fortunate enough to be invited to Dad & Mom’s place, you were treated to a good meal and a rousing game of something. A year after Mom passed away, Dad moved to the Herbert Heritage Manor where he lived until his passing on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Herb is survived by his children, Brenda (Kevin) Epp, Grace (Darrel) Priebe, and Grant (Ann) Wiebe; his grandchildren, Michael Epp, Matthew Epp, Katie (Ben) Hyland, Olivia Wiebe, and Jared Wiebe; his siblings, Selma Friesen, Peter (Nettie) Wiebe, Hildegard (Peter) Dyck, Walter (Clara) Wiebe, and Otto (Lydia) Wiebe; his sister-in-law, Aggie Wiebe; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Adeline; his parents, John & Agnes Wiebe; his siblings, John Wiebe, Anne Wiebe, and Jake Wiebe; and by his in-laws, Iona Wiebe and Abe Friesen. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Grace Community Church, Herbert, SK with Pastors Lyndon Epp and Bob Cappelle officiating. The pianist for the service was Sheila Braun. Scripture was read by Matthew Epp. “Draw Me Nearer”, “There is a Redeemer”, “When We All Get to Heaven”, and “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Henry Braun accompanied by the Epp Family on trumpets. Herb’s life history was read by Grace Priebe, with the tribute shared by Brenda Epp and a musical tribute “River Flows In You” by Michael Epp. The ushers in the church were Al Braun and Richard Forest. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Grant Wiebe (son), Kevin Epp (son-in-law), Darrel Priebe (son-in-law), Michael Epp (grandson), Matthew Epp (grandson) and Steve Wiebe (nephew). In memory of Herb Wiebe, donations made to the Herbert Heritage Manor – where Dad lived for the past two and a half years – would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
