On October 31, 2016, our Lord called Helena (Helen) Janzen, age 94, home to be forever with Him, at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK. She had lived at the Meadows for less than a month, previously spending almost seven very happy years at the Herbert Manor. Helen was born on August 7, 1922 to Johann & Aganetha Froese in Rosenhof, SK, where she lived until 1985. Helen grew up in a large family with many siblings. At the age of 28, God blessed her with a Godly man, Cornie Janzen, whom she married on November 12, 1950 — and they will soon share their 66th anniversary together in heaven. Helen valued her relationship with her husband, her family, work, and the church. She was always supportive of her husband’s work in the church and loved serving the Lord by his side. Reading, stitching, genealogies, collecting newspaper clippings and sentimental keepsakes, and her garden were some of the things that brought her joy. The garden was essential, but it was also a source of real pride — she continued to have a large vegetable and flower garden until her mid 80's. She and Cornie farmed until 1985. There, they raised seven children on the farm, where she faithfully provided for and encouraged each one. Helen is survived by her children, Susie (Steve) Price, Edmonton, AB, Martha (Joe) Esterreicher, Sioux Lookout, ON, Helen (Garry) Redekop, Swift Current, SK, Jacob (Darlene) Janzen, Swift Current, SK, Lydia (Alvin) Zentner, Calgary, AB, and Albert (Melody) Janzen, Swift Current, SK; her 26 grandchildren and their spouses; her 12, soon to be 13, great-grandchildren; her siblings, Margaret Dyck, Nellie Dyck, Bill (Susie) Froese, Jacob (Kay) Froese, and Isaac (Emily) Froese; and by her sister-in-law, Tina Froese. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband, Cornie Janzen, on June 29, 2010 — exactly 15 years after the death of her daughter, Esther James, son-in-law, Jim James, and their children, Brandy, Raymond, and Gregorie on June 29, 1995. She was also predeceased by her son, Timothy Paul Janzen, in September 1962; her parents, Johann Froese in 1940, and Aganetha Froese (nee Dreidger) in1979; her siblings, David Froese, Agnes (Nick) Wiebe, Marie (Jacob) Dyck: and her brothers-in-law, John Dyck, and Ben Dyck. The funeral service was held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 2:00 pm from East Side Church of God, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Bryon Bezanson officiating. “The Love of God,” “Abide with Me,” and “It is Well with My Soul” were sung by the congregation with Deloras Falk serving as pianist. Tributes were given by her children and grandchildren. The Eulogy was given by Martha Esterreicher. Jacob Janzen, Gordon Janzen, Bill Wiebe, and Gale Janzen served as ushers at the church. Helen was laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following grandchildren serving as pallbearers — Trent Redekop, Conrad Funk, Dustin Janzen, Mattaus Janzen, Rebecca Price, Bailey Janzen, Julia Zentner, and Madalyn Zentner. In memory of Helen Janzen, donations made to Child Evangelism Fellowship would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of the Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
