Dorothy Allan

Dorothy Jane Allan was born on her parents farm SE of Neville on March 8, 1918. She passed on November 8, 2016 at the Foyer St. Joseph in Ponteix, Sask. (age 98 years, 8 months). She was the eldest child and the only daughter of Gordon and Mary Noble. Dorothy grew up on the farm with her two brothers Harold and Oscar. Mom and her brothers most often walked to Minot Country School three miles from their home. Mom loved school and was a serious hard working student. She always wanted to be a school teacher. She completed her high school while boarding in Neville and then went to Teachers Training at Normal School in Moose Jaw, Sask. She then taught at several country schools before marrying Norman Allan in January 1941. Dorothy was always involved in community organizations. She taught Sunday School and led the U.C. W. and W.M.S. at the Neville United Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 60 years. In 1975 she was elected Worthy Grand Matron of the O.E.S. for the province of Saskatchewan. Dorothy and Norman were grain and cattle farmers as well as raising horses for a hobby. In 1978 they purchased a winter home in Mesa Arizona; they spent 12 years making new friends. Mom did all of the driving, she was an excellent driver and enjoyed travelling with Dad. As mom's health declined over the past 12 years she moved to the O.E.S. residence in Saskatoon, then to the Bentley and the Pioneer lodge in Swift Current. Her last 7 years have been at the Foyer St. Joseph in Ponteix, Sask. Dorothy is survived by her four children: Donna in Calgary, Myrna in Regina, Marvin at Neville, and Keith (Linda) at Neville, 3 grandchildren: Anita (Mike ) Dolan of St. Walburg, Cherilyn Uthe (Richard), and Dallas Allan (Jolene) and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters-in-law, Tiena Murray of Swift Current, Dorothy Noble at Herbert, and Irene Allan at Emerald Park (Regina), Sask. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Norman in 1990, one grandson-in-law Neil Uthe in 2001, both her parents Gordon and Mary Noble and by her brothers Harold and Oscar. The Allan family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and staff at the Foyer St. Joseph in Ponteix, Sask for the loving and professional care they provided to our mother. They are truly special people and we cannot thank them enough. An interment service was held at the Neville Community Cemetery with a Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Neville School Gymnasium with Pastor Paul Little officiating. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Foyer St. Joseph in Ponteix or to the Neville Cemetery Fund. "the first thing our mother taught us was how it felt to be loved".
