New Glasgow - William Richmond “Bill” Dimock. Bill passed away peacefully with family members at his side on November 22, 2016, in New Glasgow, NS.
Bill was born to Dick and Cora Dimock on April 7, 1923 in Trail, BC, where he spent his childhood.
A Chemical Engineering graduate of the University of Alberta, Bill spent his entire working life with Canadian Industries Limited (later ICI), beginning in McMasterville, QC, followed by 13 years in Brownsburg, QC. After 4 years in Saint John, NB, Bill settled in New Glasgow for the final 20 years of his career with Canso Chemicals.
An accomplished athlete, Bill is enshrined in the Sports Hall of Fame in New Glasgow, as well as in his home town of Trail. Bill’s athletic career is highlighted by his silver medal playing for Canada at the World Hockey championships in 1949 and representing Nova Scotia in the Canadian Senior Men’s Curling championships in 1983. He was a Life Member of the Bluenose Curling Club and a longtime member of the Abercrombie Country Club.
Bill was really one of a kind, an honest and true gentleman who will be remembered fondly and greatly missed by all who knew him.
Predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Barss and Ken, all of Trail, Bill is survived by Jessie, his loving wife of 66 years; his sons, Ken (Colleen) of Ottawa and Blair (Verity) of Toronto; his grandchildren, Kaylie, Ian, Mark, Cameron and Malcolm; and his many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society c/o the Aberdeen Hospital, 835 East River Road, New Glasgow, NS, B2H 3S6 or to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and volunteers in the Palliative Care Unit for their compassion and tender care during his final days.
Bill was a member and regularly attended Trinity United Church, from where his funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 2 pm, Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. A reception will follow.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the RH Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
