We regret to announce the sudden passing of Ruth Doreen Smith, age 79 of South Lake Ainslie which occurred on Saturday, November 26, 2016 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Ruth was born in Sydney; she was a daughter of the late Donald Hughie and Ruth (Phillips) MacIntyre. Ruth was an extremely special lady to so many people; she was a loving, caring and kind to everyone who met her. Ruth was a retired employee of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital Business Office. She was an active member of Alexander Grant Memorial United Church, Lake Ainslie and the UCW for over 35 years. She enjoyed spending time in her screen room in the summer and spending time with her family. Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Alex; daughter, Karen Smith; precious granddaughters, Hannah and Molly Vokey, Antigonish; sister, Louise Glasgow, Sydney; brother, William MacIntyre (Rennie), Balls Creek; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Sandra MacIntyre, New Boston, Sadie (Dave) MacLean, Glace Bay, Anna Smith, New Waterford; brothers-in-law, Finley Samson, St. Peter’s, Henry (Melita) Smith, Jackie (Charlene) Smith and Ronnie Smith all of New Waterford, Glen (Evelyn) Smith, Glace Bay and George (Cathy) Smith, New Waterford. Ruth was predeceased by sister, Phyllis Samson; brothers, Donnie MacIntyre, Allister MacInytre; brothers-in-law, Ray Glasgow and Douglas Smith; father and mother-in-law, Johnny and Mary (Copan) Smith. Visitation will be held today, (Monday, November 28) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at 11 a.m. in Alexander Grant Memorial United Church, Lake Ainslie with Rev. Rachael Campbell officiating. Burial in East Lake Ainslie Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Ruth to East Lake Ainslie Cemetery Fund, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Arthritis Society, The Nova Scotia Division.
