Lillian was born on July 11th, 1918 in Vanguard Saskatchewan to Daniel and Abigail McCuaig. In 1928 Abigail, Lillian, and Lillian’s younger sister Mae moved to Fort St. John with their stepfather Roy Taylor. The family resided at Fish Creek. Brother Gordon was born on January 1st, 1932.
The children attended school in Fort St. John travelling by horseback.
On August 15th. 1936 Lillian married local homesteader Dan Weber in Sexsmith, Alberta. They moved to the Weber land in Pineview where they resided with Dan’s Dad, Charles. On November 13th, 1937, their son Ken was born. The family lived in Pineview for many years. Dan farmed in the summer and drove truck in the winter.
In later years the family resided in Pineview in the summer then moved to the property next door to the present RCMP building in the winter. They were active curlers and Dan became an Elk while Lil joined the Order Of The Royal Purple.
In 1961 they moved into their home at the corner of 105th and 98th street. Dan passed away in November 1976. Lil continued to live in her ‘pink house on the corner’ until after 95th birthday when she moved to her condo in College Heights.
Over the past 2 years Macular Degeneration and declining health forced moves to NPSHS Apartment 3 & 4, the hospital, then over to the Bluebelle Section of Peace Villa Care Centre where she passed away peacefully on October 9th. The family is grateful for the care that Lillian was given while residing in the Care Home and also the care she received from Drs. Nobar and Mackie.
Lillian was a great cook, loved curling, shopping, and playing cards. She also loved travelling and visiting over 15 countries.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dan, sister, Mae Ikert and brother, Gordon Taylor.
This feisty lady will be remembered and missed by her son Ken, daughter-in-law Gail, grandson Dan (Monique), their sons Wyatt, Luke, Brett & Jordy, granddaughter Darci (Jack) Hynes, their sons Brian, Daylan, Kagan & Kohl, granddaughter Dawn (Chris) Thompson, and their daughters Makenna & Payton.
She also leaves her sister-in-law, Lorena Taylor, nephews Maurice Fines and Guy Taylor and nieces Audrey Thomas and Caleen Taylor, plus many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Lillian was one of the few remaining original North Peace Pioneers. A piece of our local history was lost with her passing.
