Lionel Albert Joseph DIEHL
August 1, 1953 – December 8, 2016
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lionel on December 8, 2016 in Edmonton, Alberta. He was surrounded by members of his loving family. Born on August 1, 1953 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Rene and Marguerite Diehl, Lionel was the fifth of ten children. He spent over 40 years working in real-estate in Prince Albert. Lionel had a love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time with family. His favourite activities included golfing, hunting, quadding, snowmobiling, fishing, and relaxing on his boat. Lionel had a get-up-and-go attitude, making him always ready for an adventure. He was able to travel to several countries in his life, including Costa Rica, India, Peru, and Nepal. Lionel will be fondly remembered for his willingness to help when a person was in need. He has helped many, and especially lent inexhaustible support to his family, from helping with countless building projects around the home to supporting business ventures in the wider world. When a family member or friend needed him, Lionel was always available to offer an ear, a voice of reason, humour, and above all, heart-felt compassion. Lionel is survived by his wife Debbie, and their many children and grandchildren: Bobbi and Aaron Moore (Graham, Evan, August, Jasper), Trent and Vanessa Diehl (Carmen), Trevor Diehl, Chris and Carolyn Fuss (Parker, Maren), Renae and Nick Smith, Rochelle Diehl and Rob Baroussa (Evangeline, Addison, Shaymus), Jarett Fuss (Taylor); eight of his brothers and sisters: Marcel, Omer, Dennis, Andrew, Frank, Diane, Sylvia, and Janet; and their families. Lionel was predeceased by his parents Rene and Marguerite; brother Maurice; niece Shantelle and father-in-law John Liebrecht. Lionel will be lovingly remembered by his large extended family and great many friends. Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 with Margaret Ferchuk officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 with Celebrant Reverend Father Roque Concepcion. Both services will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery.
