Carl Hladnik

Lieu de naissance : Idrija Yugoslavia
Date de naissance : 2 octobre 1930

Lieu de décès : Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada
Date de décès : 12 décembre 2016

Carl Hladnik of Swift Current SK passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2016, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, at 86 years of age. Carl was born October 2, 1930 in Idrija, Yugoslavia (Slovenia), the only child of Karel and Rosa Hladnik. He attended school until WWII and his father's death interrupted his education. He relocated with his mother and step-father to Vicenza, Italy, where he completed his Masonry Certificate. Carl immigrated to Canada in 1951 at the age of 20, arriving penniless and not speaking a work of English. He began working for Harley Bryan as a ranch-hand, an experience he spoke fondly of for the rest of his life. The Bryan's treated him wonderfully; he learned English and the Canadian lifestyle. He then worked for the CPR as a "second man". Carl and Scoof Kruger were co-owners of SouthWestern Masonry Ltd., and he worked his trade until retirement at age 62. In 1960, Carl met and married Bridget McNamara, enjoying a marriage lasting almost 40 years until Bridie's death in 2000. They were the parents of 3 daughters: Rosemary, Ann and Elizabeth. Carl and Bridie were fortunate to have travelled to Europe numerous times, and "down South" for a few weeks every winter. Las Vegas was a favorite destination. After Bridie's death, Carl learned to live as a widower and was supported by his family and good friends, especially Dale Carleton. He was an active golfer, card player and an avid sports fan. He still travelled, usually accompanied by his children. Carl also endured numerous health issues, and ended up living at The Bentley in Swift Current. He settled in and we were happy when he met and married Deana McIntosh in 2014. They had several years of companionship until Deana passed away in July, 2016. Carl is survived by his daughters, their husbands, 6 grandchildren, his sisters, their families and relatives in Italy, Slovenia and Ireland. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, niece and members of Bridie's family. Carl's Funeral Mass was held on Friday, December 16, 2016, at Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Church. The interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Carl's memory may be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation Inc. The family would like to thank the staff and physicians at the hospital; Dad was treated so kindly by all involved in his care. Warren's Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
