Gilbert ‘Gil’ Penny

We, the family of Gilbert ‘Gil’ Penny, regret to announce his passing on December 18, 2016 at home with loving family at his side. Born in Birch Grove, he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret Penny. In his younger years he was employed with Devco in both Broughton and No. 26 Mines. He later became a Truck Driver working with Scotia Limestone, SM Trucking and LeVattes Construction. Gil was a member of the Birch Grove Fire Department with over 25 years of service. He is survived by sons, Brian (Bernice), Brent (Maria); the mother of his children, Joan; sisters, Mary Cole and Ethel White; brothers, George (Ernestine) Penny and Wayne (Janet) Penny; grandchildren, Lauren-Nicole, Tyler, Justin and Meaghan; his companion and best friend, Cathy Hill and his Fur babies, Angel, Gracie, Shyla and Molly. Besides his parents Gil was predeceased by sisters, Phoebe, Beta, Susie, Vivian and brothers, Jerry and David.
Visitation for Gil will take place Wednesday, December 21, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.
