It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Emily Burt, age 97, on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 13, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Jessie (Cox) Bryan. Emily was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney, as well as the Altar Guild and the Married Couples Association. She was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was their biggest fan, following them to horse show competitions, cheering them on from the sidelines. The family stable was a big part of Emily’s life where she spent many hours. She could often be seen there in the evenings, sitting in the parking lot with her son Brad. Emily is survived by her three daughters, Shirley (Victor) Jenkins, Ball’s Creek, Sandra (Tom) Shinners, North Sydney, Charlene (Shaun) Clarke, Ball’s Creek; by her son, Brad Burt, North Sydney; daughter-in-law, Karen Wienser, Georges River; her five grandchildren, Karen, Tracy, Stephanie, Kenny, Stephen; her five great-grandchildren, Ty, Evan, Nicolas, Griffin and Stevie Rae. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Mickey.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Charlie Burt; by her son, Tom Burt; brothers, Ernest Bryan, Albert Bryan and sisters, Mildred Walsh and Margaret Woodfine. Visitation for Emily will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church North Sydney, with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church or the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia.
