Gordon McLeod

Gordon Burton McLeod, 83 of Westville passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his family at his side.
Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Harry and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Oldford) McLeod.
In his early years, Gordon was a coal miner at the Drummond Coal Mine and a member of the Draeger Team, participating in many competitions. After the mine, he worked at Michelin Tire for 20 years and was a member of the Michelin Retiree Club where he still enjoyed playing cribbage on Thursdays.
He was a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #35 where he served many offices including President, and for many years, he and his wife greatly enjoyed passing out treats to the children who participated in the Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Gordon was a member of St. Paul United Church; a member of the Cumming Loyal Orange Lodge #1634 and served as Deputy Grand Master for Nova Scotia; a member of the LOBA #609 Westville and a member of the Orange Order for 65 years.
Active in sports, curling and darts, and especially cribbage, participating in many crib tournaments.
He represented the Westville Legion with his former teammate Bill Haynes and current teammate Dana LeBlanc. In 1989, they won the Canadian Championship in Windsor, Ont. He had a fondness for animals, greatly enjoying his little furry friend Mac.
Gordon will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Stella (Gosbee); daughter Gail Copp (Bryce), Westville; son Joe (Wanda - deceased), Westville; grand children, Jo-Anne Ferguson (Aaron), Westville, Crystal Lynch (Jason), Stellarton; Bryce Copp Jr.(Erin Wile), Westville; great grand children, Andrew and Jonah Ferguson; Skylar and Harmony Lynch; Caidence and Gabriel Oakley and sisters-in-law, Betty McLeod and Evelyn McLeod.
He was predeceased by a son Gordon Allen; brothers John and Vernon “Cy” and infant brothers, Richard and Allen.
His family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a service on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. His memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Interment will be in the Auburn Cemetery.
