It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family announce the peaceful death of Barry Wilfred Brocklehurst on December 29th, 2016 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Unit. Born in Sydney, September 8th, 1947, he was the son of Dorothy (MacDonald) Brocklehurst and the late Walter D. Brocklehurst. Barry is survived by his wife, Shirley (Ash) Brocklehurst; his daughter, Denise Carere; son-in-law, Angelo; grandchildren, Dante and Alyssa Carere. He is also survived by his brother, Allan; his sister, Audrey; niece, Shannon and nephew, Peter, plus many cousins and friends.
After graduation from Sydney Academy, Barry worked at Sysco Steel Plant, in the Open Hearth, Heavy Mills and other departments until its closure. Barry is a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish and was active in the Hospitality Ministry and a loyal member of the 1064 Knights of Columbus in Sydney. Barry had a kind and generous heart always willing to help others in any situation. He was an avid baseball Blue Jays fan and also enjoyed watching the N.F.L. as well. As per Barry’s request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney on January 12th at 10:30 a.m., with Father Bill Burke officiating. Donations can be made in memory of Barry to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Building Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
