Mildred (Millie) Stearns – 1928 – 2016
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mildred Stearns, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mildred passed away peacefully, with family at her side at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre, Long Term Care in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the age of 88 years.
Mildred was born on the family farm in the Beechy, Saskatchewan district on March 2, 1928. After her schooling she came to Shaunavon to find work. She married Ted Stearns and they lived in various communities in southwest Saskatchewan before settling in Shaunavon where Millie helped out wrapping meat at their business, Stearn’s Meat Processing. She had a long and happy life although not without its complications. She was raised through the “Great Depression”, flooded out during the 1952 flood in Eastend, Saskatchewan, survived cancer in the 1960’s and a stroke in the 1990’s and remarkably she was never known to complain. She had many hobbies including watching curling, ceramics, oil painting, knitting and especially Bingo.
She was predeceased by her husband Ted in 2000, her parents and two brothers Henry and Norman.
She is survived by her three children Gerald of Shaunavon, Jean Ramsay (J) of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and Ken (Linda) of Shaunavon, her grandchildren Jackie (Darryl), Nicole (Clay), Ryan (Daniela) and Diane (Joshua); great grandchildren Trey, Tristen, Zachary, Eja, Kaycee, Brett (Kaitlyn), Lacey, Emilly and Noah; two sisters Irene Hughes and Doreen Tiessen as well as numerous nieces and nephews all of British Columbia.
A private family graveside service was held at Hillcrest Cemetery at Shaunavon on Thursday, January 5, 2017 with Funeral Celebrant Bernadette Schneider officiating. The urn bearer was Ryan Stearns. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
