John Oliver, age 69 passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son the late Bart and Christine (Murphy) Oliver.
John was a labourer by trade and belonged to the Labourers International Union, Local 1115. He enjoyed playing darts and baseball. But mostly, he will be remembered as a loving, compassionate man who adored his grandchildren. John also had a great sense of humour.
His is survived by his wife, Betty (Mischiek) Oliver; children, Darlene McCarthy (Todd), Debbie Oliver, Nicole Saccary (David), John McCarthy (Candee), Kevin McCarthy; sister, Lunda; two brothers, Dougie (Eileen), Sonny (Tori); ten grandchildren, Ryan, Cody, Tyler, Brooklyn, Brittany, Ty, Matthew, Keigan, Clinton, Jordan and one great-grandchild, Mason.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating.
