Wasson, Marion V. – in her ninety second year, of Parrsboro passed away surrounded by family on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in New Salem, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Gertrude (Atkinson) Fletcher. She was one of the few women in the Merchant Marine during World War II, serving aboard the ‘Ralph and Arthur’ as a Steward. She was also an active volunteer in her community with the ‘Friendly Group’, the U.C.W. of Trinity United Church, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Sunday School teacher and life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #45, Parrsboro serving a time as Chaplain. Besides raising a large family, she took great pleasure in a good game of cards and always, BINGO until her eyesight failed. She was known as a fantastic cook and until the last few years, many families were recipients of Marion’s food trays, and other such acts of kindness. She was always appreciative of those who assisted her in later years. She is survived by daughters, Helen Graham (Bruce), Cindy Tupper (Mike), all of Parrsboro; Mary Lou O'Brien (Basil), Clinton, Ont.; Jocelyn Bennewies (Doug), Stratford, Ont.; Donna Wasson-Little, Halifax; sons, Bruce (Edith), Bonavista, Nfld.; Ralph Jr. ‘Skip’, (Martine), Truro; sisters, Olga Davis, Exeter, Ont.; Evelyn McKenny, London, Ont.; Mona Trequair, Exeter, Ont.; brothers, Roy, (Myrna), Amherst ; Carl ‘Alton’, Truro; 22 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Ralph; a daughter, Elizabeth ‘Libby’; sister, Cora; brothers, Sydney, Rolland. Visitation 12-2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Rev. Lloyd Bruce officiating.
