RYAN BOYKO
Ryan Thomas Boyko passed away unexpectedly at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, SK on Monday, January 9th, 2017 at the young age of 38. He was born July 28th, 1978 in Prince Albert, SK at Holy Family Hospital. He grew up in Weirdale, SK. He attended Meath Park School and graduated grade 12 in 1996. He played many sports throughout school such as hockey, football, baseball, curling and he Ukrainian danced. He loved music and had many musical talents. He played violin, guitar, bass guitar, and French horn. He received awards for Citizenship, Most Valuable Player, Sportsmanship, Most Improved and countless others for athletics, music and dance. He worked as a summer student with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Smeaton and Choiceland and was always willing to help out friends on the farm. Ryan attended two years of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, but stayed connected to home by volunteering for countless community events. He enjoyed coaching minor hockey. Ryan was a First Responder, a volunteer Fire Fighter and he served as a Special Constable with the RCMP Auxiliary Program with the Smeaton RCMP Detachment. He began working with the Saskatchewan Department of Highways as a summer student in1997 and worked on the Bridge Crew. He was a crew member, a supervisor, crane operator and in 2015 took on the District Operations Manager position for the Athabasca Region with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure. This would be his twentieth year with Highways. Ryan received the Award for the highest mark on his Lattice Boom Crane Operator`s Journeyman certification exam for Saskatchewan. On May 27th, 2006, Ryan married the love of his life, Michelle (Rudderham). They shared a love and appreciation for family, animals, projects, travel, sports and just playful fun. He loved to travel and take in sporting events attending Saskatchewan Roughrider football games and NHL games whenever they could. He and Michelle were also Prince Albert Raiders season ticket holders. He also enjoyed caring for their two dogs, cat and three horses. His humor, wit and love for laughter was contagious. He was constantly trying to put a smile on people’s faces. He enjoyed the outdoors: boating, fishing, camping, golfing, snowmobiling, snowboarding, and its simple pleasures. Ryan is survived by his loving wife Michelle (nee Rudderham); his parents Thomas and Victoria (nee Slusar); his brothers Reagan, Robin (Jennifer nee Smith), and Riley; his sisters Renee (Terry Haye), and Ria Jo (David) Krahn; his parents-in-law Wayne and Donna (nee Renaud) Rudderham; brothers-in-law Kirby (Corky nee Jones), Clint (Colleen nee Crain) Rudderham, and Jim and Debbie Cowan; his nephews Matthew, Nathan, Rowan, Carter, Ryden and Travis, and his nieces Jessie, Emily, Piper, Mia, Ava and Teagan and “Granny” Claire Renaud as well as many more aunties, uncles, cousins and friends. Ryan was pre-deceased by his grandparents John and Polly (Boychuk) Slusar and Paul and Polly (Stasiuk) Boyko; his siblings Todd and Roxanna and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13th from River Park Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14th at Sacred Heart Cathedral – 1401 – 4th Avenue West. Interment took place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the request that those wishing to place memorials may do so to the Victoria Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Donald M.
