Doris Maxine Dunn (nee Widdis), age 85, passed away peacefully in her home in Sceptre, SK on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Doris was born on July 29, 1931 on the family farm near Sceptre, SK to George & Iona Widdis. She took most of her schooling at the Kathleen School, near Sceptre, Sk. After finishing school, Doris moved to Leader, SK where she worked at the Bank of Commerce. It was in Leader where she met Gordon Dunn. They were married on April 7, 1955 in Sceptre. Doris & Gordon lived in Leader, Portreeve, Sceptre, Gull Lake, Shaunavon and then in 1991 their life came full circle when they moved back to Sceptre to retire and where they resided until her passing. Over the years, Doris worked at Sceptre Credit Union, Gull Lake Credit Union and Sweeting’s Insurance. Doris enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, cross stitching, plastic canvas, petit point, and ceramics…basically anything crafty with her hands. Doris was very proud of her children and ran after them for many activities, and then later she was equally proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even after retirement, the grandkids would stay for a few days in the summer at “Camp Sandhills”. You would also see Doris in the skating rinks throughout the winter catching a glimpse of her favorite players in the hockey games. Doris & Gordon would also drive wherever needed to watch dance recitals, music recitals, or Christmas programs, rarely missing anything. It kept them young and you didn’t very often see Gordon without Doris riding along beside or in the back seat. Doris leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 61 years, Gordon Dunn; her sons, Murray (Pat) Dunn of Beaver Flat, SK, Perry (Vickie) Dunn of Rosetown, SK; her daughter, Connie (Glenn) Straub of Hodgeville, SK; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Pam (Trevor) Gedny of Gull Lake, SK – their boys, Dylan and Logan: Jennifer (Errol) Munt of Gull Lake, SK – their children, Aidan, Madison and Macy: Kalyn Dunn of Red Cliff, AB: Nicole (Blade) Davie of Swift Current, SK – their son, Taytum: Whitney (Joel) Smith of Medicine Hat, AB – their daughter, Rachel: Riley (Melissa) Straub of Hodgeville, SK: Shayna Dunn (Austin Kuzmiski) of Medicine Hat, AB; her sister, Marlene Barrie of Calgary, AB; and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, George & Iona Widdis; her brother, Gordon Widdis; her brother & sister-in-law, Bruce & Elaina Widdis; her brother-in-law, Phil Barrie; and by many brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles.
As per Doris’ request, there will be no Funeral Service. In memory of Doris Dunn, donations made to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice would be appreciated by the family.
