Marj was born on January 15, 1931, to Sigmund and Eldora (Johnson) Berge of Hallonquist,Saskatchewan. Marj married Carl A. Nelson in June, 1949, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Carl and Marj began farming on the original homestead of Carl’s father and raised their 4 children there. They were happily married for 62 years. Marj loved her family. She treated everyone she met with great respect and compassion. She was especially good at listening and making everyone feel deeply cared for. Marj was known for her hospitality and enjoyed having friends, neighbours and relatives stop in at any time for coffee, special celebrations or community whist drives. Marj was cheerful, happy and a joy to be around. She always put others first. Marj was one of the most loving, kind and gentle people you could ever hope to meet. She was full of fun and had a great sense of humour. Marj was very involved on the farm and an extremely hard worker. Her ability to get the grain truck from the field to the bin and back again in record time was well known and the subject of much teasing over her many decades of grain hauling. She loved being outdoors and always had a large garden. Everyone who knew Marj would remember her wonderful home cooked meals and delicious homemade bread, glazed doughnuts and pies. Marj’s talents also included sewing, knitting, crocheting, woodworking and making beautiful homemade quilts for her family and friends. Marj enjoyed curling and playing softball for many years. She and Carl square danced with the local club. Marj was a woman of faith throughout her life. She and Carl were members of the Hallonquist Lutheran Church and later, when they moved to Swift Current, St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church. Marj is lovingly remembered by her children and their families: daughter Elaine (Wally) Prang, Lisa (Renny) Grilz, Salix, Jonathan, Linnaea; Kurtis (Christine) Prang, Graham, Adam; Colin (Erin) Prang, Asher, Freya, Jocelyn; daughter Lynne (Wayne) Burton, Waylyn (Jennifer), Carter, Reece, Kandice (Robin) Tomaz, Aria, Bodhi; son Randy (Lorraine) Nelson, Dana (Caleb), Janna (Brad) Thompson, Brooklyn; Darren Nelson; son Arle (Debbie) Nelson, Joree and Chace.
