It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of John Charles French on February 14, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta.

Born on July 24, 1938 in Corner Brook, NL, John lived all but three years of his life in the house his father built on West Valley Road. An active outdoorsman, he spent much of his childhood swimming at Margaret Bowater Park, catching baseballs at Jubilee Field and playing hockey on Glynmill Inn Pond and Humber Gardens. As an adult, he found great enjoyment jogging or cross country skiing in the 12-Mile Dam area or Blomidon Cross Country Club near Corner Brook.

A true bon vivant, John attracted good people; his honest and affable nature leading to many life-long friendships. A proud and devoted family man, he was a loving husband to his wife of 52 years, a supportive father to his four children and a caring brother to his seven siblings. A pharmacist for over 30 years, John provided much needed service to curling and surrounding Bay of Islands communities. In retirement, when not doting on his eleven grandchildren, John found much pleasure with woodworking and craft building. His signature Adirondack Chairs are treasured and well used in scenic areas across Atlantic Canada and Calgary.

John is mourned by his loving wife, Regina (Kennedy); his four children, Sean (Colleen Hagel), Brian (Carla), Stephen (Susan) and Kara Biersteker (Dave); his eleven grandchildren, Taylor, Kennedy, Ethan, Elise, Kaelin, Madeleine, Elizabeth, Katherine, Evan, Dawson, and Sydney. John is survived by sisters, Shirley Rex (Bob - deceased), his twin, Joan Williams (John - deceased) and sister-in-law, Grace French (Cyril - deceased). He is predeceased by parents, William and Mary and siblings, John, Bruce, Gerard, Jean Griffin (Skinny), Kevin, Bill (Mary), Gertrude McHugh (Reg), Sheila Fewer (Leo) and Cyril.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) today, February 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Service and Ceremony will be planned at a later date in Corner Brook, NL.
