Lillian Ward

Ward, Lillian - Known fondly as Diamond Lil, Lillian passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Port Greville in 1927, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Adella (Canning) Wasson. Lillian moved to Advocate Harbour when she was six years old. Always one to set the stage, Lillian grew up entertaining family and friends with her musical flair. From the time she picked up a guitar, put fingers to keys and voice to lyrics, she captivated an audience. Her family and friends knew her as a jokester, ready with a laugh and a smile for everyone. Lillian lead a creative and full life. She worked as a secretary at the Advocate District School, taught square dancing and piano lessons and started The Advocate Players Theatre Club. Everyone was enriched by meeting Lillian. She opened her home as a Bed and Breakfast, taking pride in sharing her hospitality and conversation with anyone who stepped through her door. Guests became dear friends, coming back year after year to visit with Lillian. They, along with her children and grandchildren, brought incredible joy to her life. There was hardly a moment when Lillian was idle. She was an avid hooker, an always active member of the community, a vivacious member of The Red Hat Society and frequent performer at local open mics. Lillian was predeceased by Hugh Ward, her loving husband; dear friend, Carson Spicer; sisters, Annie, Doris, Ethel, Ruth; a granddaughter, Kelsey. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Jim) Tarso, Carla (Jack) Adams and Jennifer; her son, Ross (Linda) Ward; daughter-in-law, Karin Ward; her sister, Gladys; her eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Lillian’s family would like to extend their deepest and most heartfelt thanks to the medical staff on both the surgical and medical floors of the Cumberland Regional Healthcare Centre. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 21 from 12-2 p.m. at Smith’s Funeral Home in Parrsboro, where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial to take place in the Advocate Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Lillian’s memory may be made to VON Foot Care Program or to the Advocate Cemetery. Online condolences at www.smithsfuneralhome.com .
