Alex Laturnus, age 85, passed away peacefully Monday, February 6, 2017 with his family by his side at Clover House (palliative care), Swift Current, SK. Alexander “Alex” B. Laturnus was born February 1, 1932 to John & Magdelena Laturnus in Val Marie, SK. He was the fifth boy of twelve children. In his earlier years, Alex played softball and was an active curler. He worked for famers around Val Marie until he married Helene Laverdiere on June 28, 1969. In 1970, they moved from Val Marie to Frenchville, SK where they started farming and raised their two boys — Darren and Ryan. He remained on the farm until his passing. Alex loved hunting, fishing, camping, and watching hockey, baseball, and curling. He is survived by his wife, Helene Laturnus; his sons, Darren (Jamie) Laturnus of Wymark, SK, and Ryan Laturnus of Swift Current; his siblings, Casper Laturnus, Lillian Lazurka, Lorraine (Arnie) Fink, Leona (Dave) Beauchamp, Rose Asplund, Eleanor Neidermayer, Helen (Ernest) Pinel, and Hilda (Roland) Facette; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John & Magdelena Laturnus; his siblings, Elmer Laturnus, George Laturnus, and Regina Laturnus; and by his in-law’s, Ralf Asplund, George Lazurka, Louis Beauchamp, Leo Neidermayer, Therese Laturnus, and Joan Laturnus. At his request, there will be a private family Graveside Service at a later date. In memory of Alex Laturnus, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
