Joseph Stephen MacDonald, 58, died suddenly at his home in Halifax, N.S. on February 11, 2017. Joe was born on May 2, 1958 in New Waterford, Cape Breton. Joe lived in Inverness for several years where he was involved in the music scene as a bass player and travelled all over Cape Breton Island with Jerry MacDaniels. Since his days in Inverness, he moved to Halifax where he spent the remaining 30 years playing with numerous bands. He is survived by his mother, Mary 'Minnie' MacDonald, New Waterford; four sisters, Cindy Latham, Sydney, Lynn Hudson, Georgia, Karen MacDonald with partner, Spencer Clulee, Halifax and Kelli Lee, Calgary; daughter, Heather MacDonald, Toronto; nephew, Darrick Richardson, Halifax; four nieces, Lindsay Latham, North Sydney, Britiany Hudson, Georgia, Taylor and Courtney MacLellan, North Sydney; grandchildren, Aidan and Lucas McDonald, Toronto and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Stephen MacDonald Senior and nephew, Daniel Spencer Richardson, New Waterford. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A private service for family will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at 1 p.m. with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford.
