On Sunday, February 19, 2017 Margaret Dyck (nee Froese), age 88, passed away at The Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Margaret was born April 21, 1928 to Johann & Aganetha Froese in Rosenhof, SK. Margaret married John W. Dyck on November 9, 1952 and they began their life together as farmers. Their first home was in Burnham, SK, where William, Edith, and John were born to them. In 1959, they moved to the Rosenhof district, where Pauline and Carolyn were added to the family. John & Margaret lived and farmed in Rosenhof until 2004, when they moved into the city of Swift Current. Margaret invited Jesus into her life at a very young age and it was her deepest desire to know God and have a sincere relationship with Him. She spent much time in prayer and Bible study developing her relationship with her Heavenly Father. The founding of the Chortitz Evangelical Mennonite Church was an answer to her prayers for her children to attend a Christ-centred church. Her desire for others to know and follow Jesus was a passion which she expressed through her years of Sunday School teaching, leading Bible studies, president of the Ladies’ Aid group, and teaching Vacation Bible School. Margaret connected with people, and whether she had known someone for years or moments, people knew the love and concern she had for them was genuine. John & Margaret were lifelong farmers. She had a huge garden, that as the children grew older became a market garden. She had a gift for gardening and enjoyed experimenting with growing various kinds of plants including flowers, vegetables, fruit shrubs, trees, and even popcorn. Margaret spent hours preparing various foods, either from her gardens and her baked goods, to sell at the local Farmer’s Market. It was a way for her to express her entrepreneurship and connect with people. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, making blankets, quilts, and pillows. She also loved playing board games, and always played to win. The love of music and singing permeated her life — The Froese Sisters trio (Agnes, Margaret, and Nellie) were well known in the Swift Current area. Many volunteer hours were spent visiting and singing in hospitals, care homes, and singing for a Low German radio broadcast. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, John Dyck, in 2005; her granddaughter, Nicole Sawatsky, in 1992; her daughter-in-law, Eileen Dyck, in 2011; her step-granddaughter, Kelly Downey Rempel, in 2009; her parents, Johann & Aganetha Froese; and by seven sisters and one brother. Left to remember Margaret are her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: her son, William “Bill” (Ionka) Dyck; his children Leslie (Kevin) Hildebrand, their children, Aaron and Cora Hildebrand; and Leon (Kaela) Dyck; her daughter, Edith (Lyle) Downey; and her children, Brett (Amber) Downey, their children, Rowan and Gracen Downey; and Jarrett Downey; her son, John (Jennifer) Dyck; and their children, Kallie Dyck, Graham Dyck, Trenton Dyck, and Gareth Dyck; her daughter, Pauline (Steven) Sawatsky; and their children, Evelyn Sawatsky, Mitchell Sawatsky, and Clayton Sawatsky; her daughter, Carolyn (Jonathon) Pawelko; and their children, Alexander Pawelko and Kathryn Pawelko; her siblings, Cornelia Dyck, William (Sue) Froese, Jacob (Kay) Froese, and Isaac (Emily) Froese; her brother and sisters-in law, Tina Froese, Katherine Krahn, John Krahn, Clara Dyck; and by many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:00pm from Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Abe Buekert officiating. “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “Amazing Love (And Can it Be)” were sung by the congregation under the leadership of Don & Val Doerksen, with Wes Froese serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Don & Val Doerksen, who sang “My Jesus, I Love Thee” and “What a Day That Will Be.” Tributes were given by Margaret’s children, Bill Dyck, Edith Downey, John Dyck, Pauline Sawatsky, and Carolyn Pawelko, and her grandchildren, Evelyn Sawatsky, Leslie Hildebrand, Leon Dyck, and Kallie Dyck. A photo presentation was given by Kathryn Pawelko and Carolyn Pawelko. The ushers in the church were Bill Wiebe, Jake Janzen, Thomas Dyck, and Jeff Dyck. The Private Interment Service was held prior to the Funeral Service from the Wymark EMC Cemetery, Wymark, SK with Leon Dyck, Mitchell Sawatsky, Clayton Sawatsky, Graham Dyck, Brett Downey, and Evelyn Sawatsky serving as Pallbearers. In memory of Margaret Dyck, donations made to West Bank Bible Camp would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
