HARRADENCE, Catherine Letitia
March 14, 1928 - February 27, 2017
It is with great sadness that the Harradence family announces the sudden passing of our much loved and adored Catherine Letitia Harradence; Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Cousin. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, the Honorable A. Milton Harradence, her two cherished sons Roderick Richard and Milton Bruce, her loving brother Dr. Thomas Richardson, sister-in-law Alvera Richardson and her dear husband’s only brother, J. H. Clyne Harradence. Catherine is survived by her only daughter Catherine Cecelia (The Hon. Terence Semenuk), grandson Roderick Richard Harradence, step-grandson Vincent Chandler Semenuk, daughters-in-law Catherine Joanne Harradence (nee Iafolla), Bob Hornes), Sherry Marie Harradence (nee Turner) (the late Bruce Harradence), June Romano (nee Semenuk) (Carmen), sister-in-law Helen Harradence, Nephews David Harradence (Lisa), Keith Harradence (Susan Ormiston), The Hon. Hugh Harradence (Susan) and James Harradence (Michelle) and Don Richardson (Nancy); Nieces Judy Zender (Ken), Linda Richardson (Rick McPhail), Barbara Richardson (Quinn), along with many great-nieces and nephews and great-cousins David Biscoe (Joy) and Vivienne in England. Catherine remarked just recently that her life was so organized! She met (at age 17) and five years later married her only true love, had the family and life she had always wanted enjoying much happiness throughout her almost 89 years. Catherine also endured much tragedy with the loss of her husband, her two sons and many illnesses during her life. Her indomitable strength was always the quiet power within her and what carried her through her incredible life. Catherine survived cancer twice, a number of childhood and adult illnesses showing and proving to us all that life is always worth living and enjoying regardless of the challenges it brings. Catherine’s passion for her family retreat at Gull Lake Alberta was well known to us all. A summer at the cottage was an absolute must and was never missed. The Lake and her lifetime Lake companions will sadly be truly missing her this summer. A commemorative bench was erected on Aspen Beach at Gull Lake some years ago to celebrate the love of her sons and special attachments to the Lake. Catherine lived out her life here in Calgary where her Mother’s family roots dated back to the early years of the City. TJS Skinner, Catherine’s grandfather was one of the City’s founding father figures. As a little girl Catherine was told that her grandfather was a “pillar” in getting Knox United Church built. When in Knox young Catherine would always look around and secretly wonder which “pillar” Grandpa was! The family would like to extend our deeply felt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Rockyview General Hospital. Their generosity of compassion and care at Catherine’s time of need and our family was truly remarkable, offering much needed and wonderful support. Our family was also favoured with and grateful for the wonderful help Catherine received in her later years. Del, Beth and Lissa all showed unending devotion in their care and companionship for Catherine, making it possible for Catherine to live out her life with dignity and serenity in her own home. Maria, a family fixture for over 35 years was always beloved by Catherine and took such great pride in her work in our family homes. The family would also like to thank Bayshore Health for all their support in our family quest to maintain Catherine’s life at home. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Services will be held for Catherine at Knox United Church (506 - 4th Street S.W.) on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Union Cemetery.
