Clyde Raymond Smith - July 31, 1924 - February 24, 2017
Clyde passed away peacefully at the Acropolis Manor on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the age of 92. Up until November of 2016 he had lived at home. He was born in St. Catherine's River, Nova Scotia and spent his youth there. When he was 18 he joined the army and went overseas. After returning home he and Alice got married on November 23, 1946. In the spring of 1957, Clyde and Alice moved their family to Prince Rupert, B.C. and they have resided in Prince Rupert ever since. Clyde began fishing in Nova Scotia at the age of 12 with his father. After moving to Prince Rupert, he fished on several boats and in 1964 he purchased the Zapora and fished halibut, herring and black cod. He loved his profession and helped many young men get started in the fishing industry. Years later, after a brief illness, Clyde decided to sell the Zapora. He then purchased a pleasure boat that he tinkered on for a few years. “Captain” Clyde eventually sold that boat and retired from the sea. Clyde and Alice took many trips to their favorite destination of Maui as well as several trips to Nova Scotia to visit family and friends. Clyde was a life time member of the Order of the Elks Lodge and was the Exhaulted Ruler for 2 terms. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Clyde was predeceased by his son Vernon, his son-in-law Bob Quast, his father James and his mother Minnie. He is survived by Alice, his loving wife of 70 years; his daughters Sandra Logan and Neva Quast and his son Kendall (Donna). He is also survived by his grandsons Jeremy (Vanessa) and Brady (Jenna) Quast, Grant and Trevor (Becky) Logan, and Lindsay, Tanner and Owen Smith; great grandsons Trace Logan, Sebastian, Dominic, Evan and Jacob Quast. Also survived by his sister Eva Spinney (Doug) of Nova Scotia.
A celebration of Clyde's life will be held on April 30, 2017 at the Crest, from 1 to 4 pm. "Rest in Peace" "We Love You"
