Clara Harris
Date de naissance : 8 juillet 1919
Date de décès : 11 mars 2017
Clara Kathleen Harris went to be with our Lord March 11th, 2017. Her sunrise was July 8 ,1919. Clara was one of 3 children born to Eunice Huskins and Herbert Perry. Later in life married Charles Harris. Thus began the saga of Clara Harris. For more than four decades Charlie and Clara Harris owned and operated the famous Harris’ Seafood Restaurant. Clara’s passion to please and her love of people is evident in the two cookbooks she produced which contain 300 recipes developed at the Seafood Restaurant and also recipes shared by family and friends. The Hot Lobster Sandwich was Clara’s creation and to this day is served in many restaurants. Clara acknowledged the contributions made by those who worked and dined at the Harris Seafood. A second restaurant owned and operated by Clara and Charlie was the Harris Quick N Tasty directly across from the seafood restaurant. The Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce elected Clara as Citizen of the year in 1997. The relationships and friendships with staff and customers at the Harris Quick N Tasty continued until Clara retired. Clara remained in the restaurant business until 1997. Clara was inducted into the Atlantic Hall of Fame for Women Enterpreneurs in 1995. The nomination stated that she is “energetic", determined, adaptable and takes pleasure in meeting people. Her work was her life”. A second love for Clara was the sport of Curling. She and Charlie curled, and it was a sport that to this day she just loved to watch it on TV. Clara was a beautiful and gracious lady loved by many and will sorely be missed by many. Clara is survived by a son James H. Harris and daughter Sara Jean Harris, three grandsons James R and Craig E Harris, and Marc Whitchurch, two granddaughters, Kimberley Whitchurch and Gillian Baldwin, great grandchildren, Bailey Smith, Amity Harris, Bennett Harris, Clara Baldwin, Walter Baldwin, Hunter Whitchurch and Samatha Whitchurch. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be no visitation or funeral by her request and interment will take place at a later date in Darlings Lake Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Yarmouth Food Bank or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
