Selma Marie Labas (Seibel)
June 27, 1938- Feb 4, 2017
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother left this world peacefully on Feb 4, 2017 at the age of 78. She is loved and remembered by her husband of 57 years, John, daughters Donna (Ron), Yvonne (Leo) and son Lloyd (Cheryl) and cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jeff (Clara), Aron and John; Mandy (Daniel); Bradley (Melissa); Nikki (Bryce); Megan (Mike); Brittany (Katlin). Selma’s love for life and family was evident with her passion of gardening, cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, dancing and most importantly playing with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was kind, caring, generous and a hard worker. She always tended to a large garden, canning and freezing the bountiful produce. She became a fabulous cook and baker and was especially noted for her homemade bread, buns and tortas. Selma had a tremendous amount of energy and if she wasn’t cooking or gardening, she was crocheting and knitting. There wasn’t a task that she didn’t attempt to accomplish and she was never afraid of a challenge. She loved to be surrounded by family and friends, you could stop in any time and the coffee was always on. The memories that she created will be fondly remembered by all that knew her.

John Paul Labas
September 9, 1936 – March 19, 2017
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John Labas, on March 19, 2017 at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is now in heaven walking hand in hand with his wife, which was where he longed to be. He will be forever loved and remembered by his daughters Donna (Ron), Yvonne (Leo), son Lloyd (Cheryl) and cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren Jeff (Clara), Aron and John; Mandy (Daniel); Bradley (Melissa); Nikki (Bryce); Megan (Mike); Brittany (Katlin). After completing high school, John had many endeavors, such as mechanic, arc welder, electrical apprentice, and lineman. He started working for International Harvester rising through the ranks and eventually being promoted to Service Manager for southwest Saskatchewan based out of Swift Current. In 1966, John formed Southwest Equipment with four other partners. He ran the business for the next ten years until they sold in 1976. He retired at the age of 40. John was a man of many talents. He was always willing to share his wealth of knowledge and help out family and friends. John was always willing to jump in to any project and help but there was no doubt who was in charge. He offered advice, often more than once, to make sure you understood. He loved to entertain and enjoyed visiting with anyone whether it was at home, in the mall walking down the street or on the phone. He lived life to the fullest, had a great sense of humor and an abundance of stories that he would share with all. He was truly an amazing man who provided his family with strength and stability. We could count on him for help or advice no matter what the situation. His family was his greatest treasure and his grandchildren were his greatest joy. Whether he was making tents with them in the kitchen or driving them to every park in Swift Current, they knew they could always count on him. His love and devotion to Selma was most evident in the selfless care he gave her. A great soul has departed but the memories shall never fade.
