SISTER IRENE OUELLETTE

Sister Irene Ouellette, (Sr. Jean du Calvaire), Fille de la Providence passed away peacefully at the age of 103 at the Provincial House infirmary with the Sisters of Presentation of Mary in Prince Albert on Sunday, March 26, 2017. Sister Irene was born January 30, 1914, in Domrémy Saskatchewan. In 1938 she pronounced her first vows in the Congregation of Les Filles de la Providence/Daughters of Providence. She served for many years in Prud’homme where she was in charge of the music ministry in the Parish, as well as school choirs. Sister Irene will be fondly remembered by her former boarders of Vegreville, Prud’homme and the Institute in Prince Albert. Eventually she moved to Prince Albert where her main ministry was in St Michael Parish as a Spiritual Mentor. Irene was also gracious, patient and an ardent Parish Worker. The poor, the needy and the forgotten were very close to her heart. No one was forgotten. On July 25th 2004 Sister Irene shared a dream with General council, a dream that would bring a small group of women together to help keep ‘’fire in the ashes’’ alive for Daughters of Providence. This group now called Sisters in Heart, continue to meet regularly. Sister Irene has been their spiritual leader and has seen them grow and blossom under her guidance. She was predeceased by her parents Charles Ouellette and Mary LaPlante, her sister Mathilda, and her brothers Oliver, Ernest, Phillippe, Exciel, George and Willie. Sister Irene leaves to mourn her Religious Congregation, les Filles de la Providence, and her many nieces and nephews. Sister Irene’s family and the Daughters of Providence wish to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and Sisters of the Presentation of Mary for their great kindness and compassionate care. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29 at the Provincial House Chapel, 1405 Bishop Pascal Place, Prince Albert. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30 at St Michael Roman Catholic Church, 1505 – 13 Street West, Prince Albert, by Father Jim Kaptein and the Priests of the Diocese. Rite of committal will take place at the cemetery in St Louis. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of RIVER PARK MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Prince Albert, SK 306-764-2727.
