It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Wilson Anderson, at the age of 91, on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his family at his side. Born in West Point, Newfoundland on January 31, 1926, Wilson was the son of the late Samuel and Alice (Strickland) Anderson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Wilson and Ellen moved to Nova Scotia in 1952 and were residents of North Sydney for 65 years. Wilson was employed first as a stevedore and later as a steward on the Marine Atlantic Ferries from the early 1950’s until his retirement in 1991. Wilson is survived by his wife, Ellen (Monster) Anderson; his sons, Dennis (Karen) Anderson, Gary (Kerrie) Anderson and Glenn Anderson; his daughters, Goldie (Gilbert) Gillis, Diane Anderson, Brenda (Randy) Goodman, Linda Anderson, Sheila MacLean and Donna (Franklin) Jeri-Leon; his grandchildren, Janie, Troy, Justin, Jeremy, Joanna, Alyssa, Lauchie, Lisa, Ethan, Keltie, Moira and Riley, and several great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Fred, Hartley, Tom and Alec; sisters, Violet, Ruth, Jenny and Sadie, and son-in-law, Robert MacLean.
Visitation for Wilson will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Hutchison and Charles O’Regan officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
