Marie Lorraine (Thompson) Shonaman

With great sorrow, her family announces the departure of Marie Lorraine (Thompson) Shonaman from this world to be with her beloved Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Her passing occurred on Thursday, April 6th 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in 1946, in Summerside, P.E.I.; she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Arsenault) Thompson. Lorraine worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist until she began her family at which time she devoted her life to caring for them. She was an unyielding and supportive wife and mother; always willing to lend a listening ear and encouraging word to anyone. She provided constant strength for her family and friends. Lorraine was very proud of her Acadian background and highly devoted to her Catholic faith. She was a long-time member of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, chairperson of the Atlantic Service Committee, treasurer of the National Service Committee, Queen of Peach Prayer Group, past president of the Catholic Women’s League and a columnist for the New Freeman newspaper, Bread of Life magazine and various other religious columns and periodicals. In her spare time, Lorraine loved to write, listen to music, paint and tend to her gardens. Lorraine is survived by her loving husband, Fred and their children; Ian (Tanya) and Karen Shonaman Lanteigne, beloved grandchildren; Zachariah and Marcus, brother Wilfred (Cecile) Thompson, sister Beatrice (Raymond) Gallant as well as brother-in-law Robert Craig. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Freda Craig. The family would like to thank the staff of 3AN and 5CN for the love and care shown towards Lorraine and in particular Dr. Love, Dr. Griffin, Dr. Greg McLean and Dr. Sarah Caines. Lorraine will be resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8. Mass of Christian Burial and reception will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 11th 2017 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial Donations in memory of Lorraine may be placed towards the Mouth and Foot Painting Artist Association, Divine Mercy Catholic School, Canadian Wheelchair Basketball Association or Between the Heart Renewal Center.
