Marjorie Bills

Marjorie Bills

Date de naissance : 5 janvier 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Marjorie Elizabeth Bills (nee Coward) shares the news of her passing on Thursday, January 5, 2017 in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 94 years, after a long struggle with dementia. Marjorie was born on the family farm, NE of Briercrest, SK, on February 7, 1922. Although born and raised on the prairies, she had hopes to one day live in Banff and be surrounded by the mountains. The closest she came was when she and husband, Don, moved to Calgary in 1972. After elementary and High School in Briercrest, Marjorie moved to Moose Jaw where she attended Business College and took courses which helped secure jobs at Prairie Airways and Security Lumber. Throughout her life, Marjorie sewed for herself and two daughters, creating everything from pyjamas to bridesmaid dresses and a wedding dress. She also spent many hours crafting, curling, knitting, reading, crosswords, baking and entertaining the many friends who came to play cards or dominoes. She had a great sense of humour and, although she was often the quiet one of the group, she could hit the conversation with a zinger and have everyone in stitches. Marjorie and Don met at Bible Camp as teenagers and stayed connected, as her roommate in Moose Jaw was Don’s sister. They were married, November 13, 1943, on the family farm at Briercrest while Don was still in the Air Force. After the war, they moved to Moose Jaw where their first child, Shirley, was born, then to Edmonton where second daughter, Valerie, was born. After a few years in Saskatoon, they returned to Moose Jaw where son, Ronald, was born. In 1969, they were again on the move west, landing in Red Deer for three years, and then to Calgary. They were there until their final move to Grande Prairie, AB, in 2009, to be closer to family. Marjorie’s memory will be cherished by her daughters: Shirley of Grande Prairie, and Valerie (James) Jenner of Grande Prairie; and son Ronald of Calgary. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Lisa Larson and her daughter Olivia, Melanie Jenner, Derek Jenner and his daughter Kaydence, all of Grande Prairie, AB; sister in-law Betty Lou Hannah of Edmonton; as well as extended family and friends. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents: George and Jennie Coward; brothers and sisters in-law: Ralph (Mabel), Cecil (Lily), Grant (Martha), and Harold; as well as her husband of 71 years Donald in 2014. Cremation has taken place in Grande Prairie and Internment and a Graveside Service will take place at a later date in Grande Prairie, AB.
