HELEN MAUTHE

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Helen Nellie Mauthe. Helen was born April 16, 1939 on the Nagy homestead in Foxford, SK. Helen attended her school years at Foxford and Meath Park. At a young age Helen worked at the hospital in Buffalo Narrows. On July 1st, 1961, Helen married Elmer and just last year celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. During their 55 years together Helen and Elmer enjoyed many activities such travelling, snowmobiling, camping and raising their family. They were blessed with their son Clint and a year later their son Conrad, or as Helen called them Butch and Jody. Her sons meant everything to her. After living in Foxford for a year, Helen and the boys joined Elmer in Churchill where he was working at the time at the Grain Harbour. They then called Churchill home for 10 years. This is where Helen started her career as a Taxi lady. While living in Churchill Helen played ball and was an exceptional player. In fact, uniform #7 that was worn by Helen was retired. Then in 1973, Helen and Elmer and the boys moved to Prince Albert where Helen worked a short time at Safeway. Helen also continued to drive taxi and then later owned and operated Checker Taxi along with Elmer and his brother Doug. Helen was a very professional Taxi driver and with her 50 years of driving was accident free. Growing up, Clinton and Conrad were involved in many sports’ especially hockey, which she loved. Helen had the opportunity to travel many places with Clint during his hockey career including places such as Germany, Austria, New York, Colorado, Utah and Cleveland. Later, Conrad worked alongside his Mom and Dad for many years in the Taxi business. Helen enjoyed going to auction sales, antique and garage sales with Conrad to supply his furniture/antique store. She collected many antique glass dishes and figurines over the years. Helen loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed the times when Chad and Tyler would stay with Helen and Elmer at the lake and enjoyed many activities with them. Aksel and Paisley always put a smile on her face when they came to visit, and she loved being Great Grandma Helen to Kaydance and Granny Helen to George. They all held a special place in her heart. Helen was looking forward to another great grandchild due in August. In 1989 Helen and Elmer decided to make Candle Lake their permanent residence. Helen was heavily involved within the community. She was very active with the Candle Lake Sno’Drifters and worked faithfully at Bingos to help raise money for snowmobiling. Helen loved snowmobiling. She was an active volunteer for Sask 100. She volunteered for the library and worked endlessly gathering books. She was an active TOPS member and considered all the members her friends. Helen loved to clean and was always tidying up, and would help house clean for Frank and the boys on the farm as well as any house she went to including moose camp for the men. Helen grew beautiful plants every summer and their deck always had a colorful array of flowers. She also loved their dog Memphis and spoiled him to no end. Helen made a point of talking to everyone. She was truly an amazing lady and wonderful person and will be deeply missed. Helen is lovingly survived by her husband Elmer; her sons Clinton (Debbie), Conrad; grandchildren Chad (Jessie), Tyler (Kayla), Aksel and Paisley, Chris (Amanda), Candice; great grandchildren Kaydance and George; sisters Shirley and Deanna; brothers Frank (Venes), Jerry (Pat); sister-in-law Laurie (Bob) Stushnoff; brother-in-law Doug Mauthe; sister-in-law Virginia (Bob) Sarabin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Nellie Nagy; her brother Clinton Nagy; brothers-in-law Ron Mahu and Raymond Robert. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Candle Lake Community Hall with Revered Nora Vedress officiating. Meal to follow.
