It is with heavy hearts, we announce his sudden passing on April 10 at his summer home in Little Narrows. He was born January 23, 1946 at Whycocomagh Portage to Eli and Amy (Baker) MacKay.
He spent his early years working for his brother, Angus, as a truck driver. Later he was employed at Little Narrows Gypsum Company. He was a hardworking and dedicated employee. He retired after 35 years at age 60.
His family meant the world to him. He was everything to his family... our rock and anchor in life. He was one of the kindest people you could ever meet; a devoted husband, father and Papa. He enjoyed a good card game, playing checkers, cheering on his favorite team, NY Islanders, especially making sure his property was well cared for, and telling a good story or two. He would never be content unless he was busy. He was passionate about all things mechanical. Most of all, he cared deeply for his family and friends and will be remembered for his kind heart who was always willing to help anyone in need. He wasn't done with life yet…
He will be greatly missed and shall live in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Betty (MacLean); daughter, Tracy; son, Jason (Lori); grandson, London; fur baby, ChloeBelle and mother-in-law, Bell (Bonaparte) MacLean. He is survived by sisters, Maude (Billy) Livingstone and Vicky Percy; brother, Johnny (Clemmie) and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Rose (Neillie) Mac Kay, Shirley (Charlie) MacKay and Teaney (Gussie) MacKay.
He was predeceased by his parents, Amy and Eli; sisters, Eva Morris and Roseanna MacIver and brothers, Alfred, Charlie, Murdock, Neillie, Gussie and Angus; brothers-in-laws, Donald MacIver, Ralph Percy, Clarence Morris; father-in-law, Michael J. MacLean and special fur baby, Shelby.
In honoring Sandy's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life reception will be held on Saturday April 22, 2017 at 2 p.m., at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St, Sydney. Donations, in loving memory of Sandy MacKay can be made to Loaves and Fishes, Sydney, the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society, or Aileen's Pets Without Vets, Victoria Road.
