GEORGE CHEAL
1921 – 2017
George William Cheal was born on Sunday, July 10, 1921, and lived his whole life on the family farm near Spruce Home. He attended school in Henribourg before leaving at age 16 to help his father farm. He was active in the community, helping to build the local church and founding the Senior’s Club. He was also a leader and a pillar of the 4-H Club for many years. George enjoyed sports in his youth, spending many weekends at tournaments. His love of farming encompassed the animals and the land, and George passed these interests down through his family. George married Alice in 1950 and together they had five children. George’s final years were spent at Mont St. Joseph Home, where his infectious smile won him many new friends and he developed new hobbies such as music and painting. George is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice (nee Tienkamp); his children, Gordon (Eleanor), Linda (Gary) Smith, Darrell (Carol) and Cheryl (Greg) Elliott; his grandchildren, Crystal (Trevor) Vilness, Amber Viklund (Cody Langford), Bradley (Crystal) Cheal, Katie (Matthew) Wilson, Ashley Viklund, Christopher (Samantha) Cheal, Karsten Elliott (Nicole Shmyr) and Bryanne Elliott; his great-grandchildren, Casey, Reid, Laura, Hannah and George Wilson, Lily, Abigail and Bennett Cheal and Oliver Langford; and his in-laws, Janna Biggar, Garry (Birgit Gates), Mark (Sylvia), Leonard (Jeanette) Teinkamp and Joanne Johnson. He was predeceased by his infant son, Bryan; his parents, William and Lily Cheal; his father- and mother-in-law, Marcus and Gerrigje Teinkamp; his brother, Roy (Flo) Cheal; his sister, Joan (John) Vancoughnett; his sisters-in-law, Carmen Teinkamp and Margaret (Edwin) Thall; and his brothers-in-law, Ken Teinkamp and Marvin Biggar. A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at River Park Memorial Chapel, Deacon Eldon Danielson officiating. A private family interment will follow.
