Eric James Whyte

Eric James Whyte

Date de naissance : 12 octobre 1925

Date de décès : 5 mai 2017

It is with profound thankfulness for a life well lived that the family of Eric James Whyte shares the news that God called has called him home on May 5, 2017 at Groves Point. Eric’s life was defined by his faith in God and his love for Jesus Christ.
Eric was born and raised in Sydney Mines, October 12, 1925, the youngest child of George and Mary Jane (MacLean) Whyte. He was the last survivor of his brothers and sisters. He was predeceased by his oldest child, George and his lovely granddaughter, Jessie, who are already home – what a joyful reunion!
Eric was educated in Sydney Mines, Mount Allison University, Dalhousie Dental School and University of Montreal. He opened a dental office in Sydney Mines in 1947 and in 1959 he set up practice in Sydney as Cape Breton’s only orthodontist. Over several decades he served his mostly young patients with kindness and made many lifelong friends in the community. He also served many years as an elder in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and later in Grace Fellowship Church, Sydney Mines. He was an active member of the Gideons and enjoyed delivering bibles to people of all ages, but especially young students. In his sunset years he was healthy and active to the very end. He continued to grow in his faith and was tremendously generous with his garden produce.
One of Eric's greatest adventures was while in his eighties, he travelled with his son Sandy and a dental team to the mountains of Nicaragua with Medical Ambassadors to provide dental treatment for children.
Eric will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn; his sons, Rick (Jeanne Ferguson) and Sandy (Vicki MacLeod); his daughter, Bonnie (Blair Pardy) and the mother of George's children, Rhonda. Eric enjoyed warm relationships with his 15 grandchildren, Laura (Andrew), Eric (Mary), John Robert, Jamie (Melissa Jane), Hannah, Mark, Kristian, Andrew, Grace, Gemma, Joe, Alex, Ben, Beth and Georgia. He lived to see the births of eight great grandchildren, Declan, Elsie, Angus, Marilyn Claire, Ally, Merrick, Emmett and MacGregor.
Eric loved his nieces and nephews, his close friends and church families. He leaves us with a wonderful heritage of a loving, gentle and honorable husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Visitation will be held at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Steve Fenton in the funeral home chapel, Tuesday, May 9 at 2 p.m.
Family flowers only. If you wish to make a donation, three of Eric's favourite charities are Gideon's International in Canada, Cape Breton Bible Camp and Munro Academy.
