Harold ‘Harry’ Lorne Gay, (also known as ‘Mr. Spoons’), of Halifax, passed away to eternity to be with His Lord and Saviour on May 19, 2017 at the Veterans’ Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 24, 1939 in Dartmouth, NS to Gerald and Evelyn (Langille) Gay.
Harry joined the Royal Canadian Air Force after high school, where he served until he was injured and medically discharged.
Harry devoted his life to music. He was an accomplished vocalist and percussionist. In his later years, he enjoyed playing spoons for seniors at Camp Hill and Northwood until the week before his passing.
Harry was preceded by his spouse, Joan Deveau, whom he will be joined in burial.
Harry is survived by his daughters, Lorna (Darren) MacLean of River Ryan, NS, Barbara Gay of Halifax, NS, Catherine (Michael) Larade of Bear Cove, NS, and his son, James Gay of Halifax, NS; his grandchildren, Ryan (Libby) LaPierre, Jolene Fougere, Evan MacLean, Adriana MacLean, Troy MacLean, Michaela Larade and Victoria Larade, and his great-grandson, Riley LaPierre; his sister, Sally Armstrong of Bridgewater, NS; his nephews, Larry Humphreys, Karl Armstrong, Danny Armstrong, and his great-niece, Hayley Humphreys.
A visitation with reception to celebrate the life of Harry, where the family will be showing the “Life and Times of Harry Gay” will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, NS at 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017. A funeral service will be held at West End Baptist Church, 1986 Preston Street, Halifax, NS at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017. Burial will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville, NS.
