FROTTEN, J. Leo, C.D. – age 79, Amirault’s Hill, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at home. Born October 29, 1937 in Amirault’s Hill, he was a son of the late Peter and Adele (Muise) Frotten. After attending school in Amirault’s Hill, he served with the Canadian Army from 1954 to 1966, having served in Canada, Germany and in the Middle East. He then returned to Yarmouth where he worked aboard the MV Bluenose for 22 years, retiring in 1991 as Third Officer. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155 Wedgeport as well as of the Argyle Municipality Historical and Genealogical Society. Leo is survived by brothers, Vernon, Amirault’s Hill; John (Erite), Tusket; Jimmie (Irene), Wedgeport; Augustin “Gus” (Linda), North Bay, ON. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Levi “Chippy” Frotten and a sister, Madeline Nixon. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, May 26, with a Royal Canadian Legion Service at 7:30 p.m., both at H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. Interment took place at Holy Family Parish Cemetery, Amirault’s Hill. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or to the Salvation Army.
