Lieu de décès : North Sydney, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 6 février 2009

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Ken Anderson, 82, of Sydney Mines. Ken slipped away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at home.
Born in North Sydney, he was the only son of the late Archibald and Hilda (MacDermott) Anderson.
Ken had been employed as a port agent with CNR in North Sydney for many years, before leaving to manage a fish processing plant for H.B. Nickerson’s, then moving on to National Sea Products, in North Sydney, where he would remain until his retirement at age 65.
Ken was a community-minded man who took great pride in his work with many groups and organizations over the years. He was an active member and former president of the North Sydney Rotary Club. He was instrumental in bringing the ‘Rotary Clinic’ for disabled children to the Northside General Hospital; and was proud that it became a practice that was an annual event for many years afterward. It was for this type of dedication and selflessness that Ken was awarded the highest honour of the Rotary Club, becoming a ‘Paul Harris Fellow,’ as well as receiving an award presented by Sen. Robert Muir, on behalf of the Government of Canada in 1992, which recognized individuals for outstanding contributions to their communities. Ken had the honour of being the first Citizen of the Year in 1972, an award given by the North Sydney Kinsmen Club.
Ken was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19 North Sydney. He was a former director of the Sydney Harbour Ports Board, a dedicated member of Air Search and Rescue and St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney.
Ken was a family man. He spent many summers camping in Cheticamp and Watson’s Siding where he later built a cottage. He enjoyed many years of camping in Whycocomagh, and several winter trips to Florida. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a great storyteller and local historian, more than willing to share his knowledge with anyone interested.
He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of over 60 years, Phyllis; daughters, Judy Jackson (Calvin Bradbury) and Cathy; one grandson, Tyler; three sisters, Vera Graham, Marie Viva, Minnie (Buddy) Roberts; two nieces; four nephews, and his faithful companion ‘Star.’
He was predeceased by his son in infancy, his sister-in-law, Georgie Griffin, brothers-in-law, Clarence Graham, Joe Viva and Hedley Griffin; as well as his father and mother-in-law, George and Pearl Reid.
Visitation for Ken will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. from St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Cremation to follow.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the C.B. Cancer Centre, Rotary Disabled Children, or a charity of choice.
Online condolences may be sent to info@wjdooley.com.
