MURPHY - Walder Brunton April 16, 1926 - April 19, 2008 Walder Murphy, beloved husband of Rena, passed away at the Herb Bassett home on April 19th, 2008 at the age of 82, with his family at his bedside. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me". With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Walder was born in Prince Albert on April 16, 1926. He worked at Burns Meat Packing Plant before leaving to serve in the Navy during World War II. After returning from the war, he worked for a short time for CN Railway then took a job at Molson's Brewery in which he worked for 41 years. He retired when the brewery closed and worked as Commissionaire for another 4 1/2 years. Walder loved music. He had an amazing natural talent playing the accordion, the piano and the organ and took part in several bands. In 1995, he took first place in the Anavets First Annual Accordion Contest. Fishing was a favourite pastime resulting in many interesting "fish stories". Walder, Rena and his father in law, Russell McClure enjoyed their many trips to both Candle and Christopher Lakes. Walder loved God and acknowledged Him as his Savior, a belief that he passed on to his children. He was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church and served in many capacities including that of elder. He sang in the church choir and used his musical talent on the organ to accompany the choir. Walder's family was very important to him. He was proud of his three children and nine grandchildren. Recently he became a great-grandfather to three wonderful girls. Walder is survived by his loving wife, Rena, of 59 years, his sons Brian (Peggy) Murphy of Prince Albert and Terry (Terri) Murphy of Moose Jaw, his daughter Judy Murphy of Moose Jaw, as well as his grandchildren Darcy (Erin) Murphy and their daughter Sarah, Devin (Carrie Bannerman) Murphy and their daughter Jessi, Amber (Marc) Poulin and their daughter Jayde, all of Prince Albert, Heidi (Chris) Bochek, Shaun Podhorodeski, Kelly (Lisa) Murphy, Heather Murphy, Josh Murphy, and Daniel Murphy, all of Moose Jaw. He was predeceased by his parents Jerry and Mary Murphy, his father in law and mother in law, Russel and Pansy McClure, and his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Blanche Murphy. Celebration of Walder's life will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 1:30 PM at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 12th Street and 1st Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Dr. R.M.A. Sandy Scott officiating. As a member of the Legion, Veteran's Honors will be conferred. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Association would be much appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to MacKenzie's Funeral Chapel.
