Date de décès : 12 mai 2007
Gertrude "Gertie" Priscilla Shreenan, 78, passed away peacefully at home with daughters, Donna and Linda, by her side on Saturday, May 12th, 2007, after a short courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 29th, 1928, in New Glasgow she was the eldest daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (MacLellan) Foster. Gertie lived in Montreal for many years where she devoted her early years to raising seven strong and loving children. She was supportive of each and every one of them and took pride in all of their accomplishments. While in Montreal she worked for Woolco Department store. After returning to Nova Scotia in 1976 she began working for Michelin at the Pictou County and Waterville plants from where she retired in 1991. Gertie loved to travel. Having travelled across Canada, to Las Vegas, Florida, the Dominican Republic and Thailand, one could say that she had become a world traveler - and she loved every minute of it. She couldn't wait for the next adventure. At the time of her death she was planning a trip to Newfoundland in August with her daughter Doreen. Besides her parents, Gertie was predeceased by two husbands, Robert "Rice" Davidson and Robert "Bob" Shreenan, and two sons, Reginald "Regi" Davidson and Collin Samuel Shreenan, and by brother, Samuel Foster, Jr. Surviving are sons, Ronald Davidson, Midway; Dennis Shreenan (Laurette), Trenton; daughters, Doreen Davidson (Pierre), Montreal; Linda Michaud (Jake), Vancouver; and Donna Dunn (Bob), Stellarton; sisters, Matilda, Halifax; Kay, Hopewell; Sadie, Charlottetown; brothers: William, New Glasgow; Nickolas, Montreal; Milford, Toronto; Robert, Sarnia; grandchildren: Sylvie Michaud, Lori Robson, Melissa Chisholm, John Dunn, Kathy Rheaume, Kelly Rheaume, Nancy Davidson, Kevin Davidson and Tanya Penney as well as nine great-grandchildren. To grant her final wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. The family will gather at the home of Donna Dunn, 12 Cedar Drive, Stellarton on Wednesday, May 16th, from 2-4 p.m. to celebrate the life of their loving mother. Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to visit at this time. The family wishes to send special thanks to Gertie's dearest friends and 'earth angels' - Angeline Stevens and Violet Lees. We could not have granted Mom's wishes of staying at home had it not been for the countless hours of friendship and support you gave to our mother. We are eternally grateful and you will both be in our hearts forever. To Edith Gillis, VON, we extend special thanks for being with us during our time of need. Your professionalism and compassion as we said our final goodbyes to our strong, dedicated and loving mother and friend, will always be remembered. Our thanks also go out to all other VON nurses who made daily visits to aid in the care of our loving mother. To Dr. Grant Kirk and Dr. Gerry Farrell, our sincere thanks for your support in helping to ease Mom's pain as she battled the disease which took her life far too soon. No flowers by request.
