PICTOU – Nellie Purvis Blair, 96, of Pictou, and formerly of New Glasgow, passed away January 27, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Great Village, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Rebecca (Johnson) Spence. She is survived by a daughter, Leitha Aikens, Mt. William; sons, William, Toronto; and Arnold (Florence), New Glasgow; grandson, Donald, whom she brought up and visited often, his wife, Agnes and their son, Kyle. She is also survived by 19 other grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Hilda Pitts, Truro. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; daughters, Gwendolyn Davidson, and Anita MacLeod; nine brothers, and three sisters. Nellie will always be remembered for her great sense of humour, and in earlier days, her apple pies, chocolate cakes, and homemade bread. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
